Soluna is a new tangle by me, Pegi Schargel, CZT. It consists of three easy strokes; orbs (circles), straight-ish lines, and a curved line (arc). Create Soluna in just three very easy steps. The inspiration for this new tangle is an outdoor light called Negron 1 that I saw in an online home improvement catalog. This shows that inspiration for tangle patterns can come from anywhere! Zentangle Opus: My First Experience – Part 2
This is the 2nd part of a series. Be sure to see Zentangle Opus: My First Experience – Part 1 here!
Zentangle Opus Tile Part 2
After having drawn a wonderful string on my Opus Tile, I tangle Crescent Moon. It’s a standard tangle that I often use. I also teach it to all students in my Do More Art Zentangle Basics and Introduction to Zentangle classes at Portland Community College. I decide to give crescent moon a prominent place on the tile, front and center. I decide to draw it large and gave it 7 crescents so that it would not look too crowded. I decide to leave the center as white space to shade later. If I don’t like that, I know I can always fill it with solid black ink, or add the Tipple pattern. I think to myself that it looks naked sitting there on the tile. For a moment I fear that the scale is inappropriately large for the tile size. No worries, just tangle on and see what happens! 🙂
Zentangle Opus: My First Experience – Part 1
My First Opus Tile
My incredibly talented Interior Designing Mother-in-Law had asked me to create a larger piece of Zentangle art for display in her gorgeous home. I have tangled for years and yet, I was a bit apprehensive about the idea of creating for the large 10-1/2″ square Zentangle Opus Tile format. I have made a couple of 9-tile ensembles in the past and had a lot of fun creating those, so I figured I’d give it a try. I ordered 5 Opus Tiles from Zentangle headquarters.
The tiles arrived quickly and I excitedly opened the package. The Opus tiles were well protected in a glassine bag and were carefully enclosed between two larger pieces of paper board to prevent damage.

Review: Tangle Deck 1
Tangle Deck 1 is the brainchild of Lynn Mead, a Certified Zentangle® Teacher (CZT), from Monroe, WA. All CZTs attend extensive training in Providence, RI and are personally instructed by the founders of Zentangle, Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts. This review assumes that you are familiar with the Zentangle Method and the associated terminology.
Have you ever tried to draw your own reference Tangles and Step-outs on tiles? I have and I could never get enough info on the front of the 3-1/2″ tile. Lynn takes care of that problem elegantly!
Tangle Deck 1 – What Is It?
Lynn has created Tangle Deck 1 to be a reference for named, non-copyrighted, repetitive images as introduced by Zentangle Inc. and as a wonderful source of inspiration for people who draw using the Zentangle Method.
The portable paperboard boxed set consists of fifty-four beautifully illustrated, coated large 3-1/2” by 5-3/4” cards, and an accompanying flat-lying, thirty-five page spiral bound booklet titled Tangle Deck Techniques. Fifty-two of the cards have easy to learn, copyright-free Tangles directly from Zentangle Headquarters.
