Zentangle®: Colored ZenGems class
Please read this carefully and take action today. If you choose to order items online, it may take a little while to receive them!
If you have any questions, please call me at 503-897-9997 at least 1 day before class.
Note: If you have not already taken an Introduction to Zentangle class, please sign up anytime. It is not required for Color ZenGems class. Introduction to Zentangle covers much more of the Zentangle Method on a deeper level. You’ll love it!
You need to supply your own colored pencils for this class. Although you can use any colored pencils to create art, they are not created equal! Wax based colored pencils work best for this class. Typical colored pencils are not wax based and the colors do not blend or burnish as well as we need them to (even though the box may claim they do). I have tested many brands and grades of colored pencils with affordability in mind.
Premier is the best choice for this type of art because it uses a soft wax core, blends, and burnishes easily. Premier provides the best results for your investment, and the pigments are quite lovely! Scroll down for links for at least a tin of twelve (12) piece set of Prismacolor Premier colored pencils. 12 is really all you need for a basic start, and you can buy more if you want more colors.. More is better. Please do not bring/use standard colored pencils, watercolor pencils, pastel pencils, or Inktense colored pencils. They simply will not work well.
Colored Pencil Suggestions
Whether purchasing locally or online…I strongly suggest you choose ONE of the following recommended PrismaColor Premier Colored Pencil sets:
Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils, 12 Count. This is the least expensive item you should consider.
OR
Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils, 24 Count. These are a great deal…they’ve been just under $20 before!
OR
Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils, 36 Count
or the whole shebang Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils, 48 Count. It is not uncommon to see a 48 Count set cheaper than a 36 Count set! Maybe you want even more! It’s up to you and your budget!
Optional, but very strongly suggested…
A Mobilus + Ruppert Pencil Sharpener. I recommend having a dedicated high quality manual pencil sharpener for your colored pencils and this is my personal choice! I’ve tested scores of sharpeners and wasted colored pencil ‘lead’ before getting this incredible sharpener. This sharpener is amazing, it creates very long points to more quickly blend and burnish your art!
Local Art Supply Shops: There are very reputable art supply shops located in the greater Portland area. I always get a fair deal at ‘I’ve Been Framed’ in SE Portland near where I live. They usually offer a discount with proof of being an instructor or student! (shhh!)
Other Notes:
Please bring something to store your art in so that you won’t have to carry it and your supplies loose after class.
I will teach Tangles in class to finish the project. If you have them, you may want to bring a few step-outs of your favorite Tangles with you.
I supply the following materials for your $10 PCC Materials Fee:
- Pencil
- 01 Black Sakura Micron pen
- Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen
- Tortillion
- Zentangle Apprentice tiles
- Scrap paper
- Paper toweling
Again…if you haven’t already taken an Introduction to Zentangle class, feel free to sign up anytime It’s awesome!
Finally…
Be early for the class. Give yourself a chance to relax and unwind. We have a very short time for the amount of drawing and instruction. If you can stay longer, great! This is a brand new class and I tend to take longer with it until I get my timing down.
Thank you for joining us!
